Two Weeks In

So after two weeks Gary and I were really becoming pros at this whole parenting thing (NOT!).  It was hard...WAY hard those first couple of weeks.  I was an emotional wreck, Levi wasn't getting enough to eat and nobody was getting any sleep.  So the two week update is like a little pep talk to myself and to Levi.  It helped to put things into perspective by writing kind of like a letter to Levi so here goes:

June 27, 2014

The first couple of weeks of your life have been quite an adventure!  We've been trying to figure out how much you need to eat, sleep, poop, and we do everything possible to keep you from crying (you really like it when daddy sings in a funny voice).  We're also trying to figure out how to help you gain weight.  When we went to the doctor this week you had lost an ounce from our first visit so we are going to see a lactation consultant and we've started adding a formula supplement.  We go back later today to recheck your weight so we are hoping you've gained some!  We want you to be so healthy and happy because we love you so much!!

The next day...

Levi's up to 6 lbs 13.5 oz!! He gained 3 oz in 2 days so to celebrate we took him on his first trip to Lake Keowee at High Falls Park.  Although he slept most of the time we had a good time grilling burgers and hotdogs and Granny Kelly and Aunt Phyllis even got to join us!  We had a great time but we were all ready for a nap when we got home!

Enjoy some pics from our day at the lake...

It's a miracle I'm sitting upright here (sooo tired!)

The ladies love Levi

I'm Back!

Hi friends!  I've missed you guys!  Life has been pretty hectic the past few months so I had to take a bit of a hiatus from updating the blog.  But I have lots of fun things in store!  I always get inspired during spring to start back up with my photography.  There's just something about the world waking up from winter that makes me want to get back out there and capture new images.  This past weekend my husband and I went on a day trip to the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law.  It was a rainy, yucky day but we still had a blast!  As you may know, you're not allowed to take photos inside Biltmore, but I did get several shots from the gardens.  I hope you enjoy seeing the highlights from our trip!  Have you ever been to Biltmore?  What was your favorite part?  I would love to go back when the weather is better so we can fully take advantage of the gardens.  We only got to go through a small part due to the rain.  Enjoy!

Day 26: Happy Trails!

This is a short trail we took while hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to get to the Juney Whank Falls (don't ask about pronunciation, I don't know, but it's fun to make up your own!).

Day 24: Chasing Waterfalls

As promised, here is the first of several hiking pictures that are sure to appear on the blog.  These are the Mingo Falls in Cherokee, NC.  It was a short hike to get to the falls but it was straight uphill.  The view was more than worth it though.  These are some of the prettiest falls I've seen in the area.  If you're ever near the Cherokee Reservation in NC, make sure you stop by and check it out!

Inside the Jockey Lot, Part I

Recently I took a trip to "South Carolina's Largest Tourist Attraction", the Anderson Jockey Lot.  I was prompted to document my experience due to my Columbia friends' ignorance of the unique experience that is the Anderson Jockey Lot.  So in part 1 we will be exploring the people of the Jockey Lot.  I met vendors who had come to the Jockey Lot from all over the US, people selling everything from makeup to puppies.  I met customers just browsing the stands or taking their dog for a walk.  Although it was a chilly day in January, there is always something going on at the Jockey Lot.  I hope if you ever find yourself in Anderson, SC you'll take time to stop by and meet some of these friendly faces...
